Hello, I am Heidi, a Singaporean mum. I have a sweet tooth and craving for good food since young. It is not hard to imagine I have been overweight by more than 20 kilos for many years, until a few years ago, during pregnancy, I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and needed insulin injections. This incident had changed my life forever. Though I have recovered now, I have a high risk of getting diabetes again. I have since changed my habits and choice for food and have been eating healthier since. I have shed some excess weight along the way. I am now baking and cooking healthier versions of food for myself and my family, to keep us healthy and still have the luxury to indulge in delicious, and sometimes decadent food.
I am also a strong advocate for reducing food wastage. I was made aware that there is on-going a huge amount of food wastage going on, which leads to more burning as a means to dispose off the waste, which will contribute to the climate change as well. I have read the impact of climate change on people, animals and corps. I guess everyone plays a part. I will start with my family. I cook the right amount of food, for the right amount of people to eat at the right time. You will see from my recipe that the portion of food tends to be quite small size. You can increase the recipe size if you have to cook for more people to eat. Just cook sufficiently to eat and eat while the food is fresh. I do not like to keep and eat overnight food myself or for my family.
I also believe in not just eating right, but also living an active, healthy lifestyle. This is a holistic wellness mentality. I read somewhere that to stay healthy, 70% is based on what you eat and 30% is based on exercise.
I am sharing my healthier (if not healthy) recipes here, in the hope that you will enjoy these food as well and keep your family healthy. Please feel free to give me any comments that you may have. Bon Appetite!
