Quick Fix Meal – Japanese Pork Bone Ramen Noodle Soup (豚骨汤)

I have been quite sick and tired of cooking the same food every weekend.  This weekend, I decided to be a bit more adventurous to try something different.  I have this craving to eat Japanese Pork Bone Ramen Noodle Soup.  I ate this noodle sometime back, and I missed the heart warming taste …. So this became my target for this weekend’s lunch.

According to wikipedia, Ramen is a Japanese dish. It consists of Chinese-style wheat noodles served in a meat or fish-based broth, often flavored with soy sauce or miso, and uses toppings such as sliced pork, dried seaweed, menma, and green onions.

But having to cook for the family with kids means I cannot afford to spend too much time creating things from scratch. So I decided to take the easy way out.  So my shopping at NTUC Fairprice was fairly straight forward.  I bought the one packet of Pork Bone Soup base with Soy Sauce, one packet of Japanese Char Siew, 1 packet of Wheat noodles, green spring onions, Japanese Green (vegetables), I also bought some mushroom balls and fish balls with chicken fillings (optional).

It just take about 20 mins and you can serve the whole family with delicious Japanese Ramen Noodles Soup.  Plus you can use your creativity to add in more ingredients as you wish.

Ramen has the normal white color, green tea flavor and Buckwheat noodles (brown color).

To prepare, I use 2 separate pots. One pot for cooking the vegetables and noodles.  Another pot to heat up the Soup base and Japanese Char Siew.

The tip for making the wheat noodles QQ, is after cooking in hot water, you need to transfer it to cold water to cool down immediately (and stop the cooking process).

First pic is boiling of the noodles.  Second pic is transferring the cooked noodles into the cold water (with ice).

When the Ramen was served, my whole family was rushing to gorge down the noodle soup, that I had no time and forgotten to take photos.  I had only a bit of Ramen left when I remembered to take photos (sorry!).  The Ramen was very delicious, coupled with the Japanese Char Siew, it’s like a match made in heaven.

Try this short-cut way for a quick fix meal to eat Japanese Pork Bone Ramen Noodle Soup.  You will have no regrets!

Japanese Pork Bone Ramen Noodle Soup (豚骨汤)

Preparation Time: 20 mins.  Serve 6 pax.

Ingredients

1 packet of Japanese Pork Bone Soup Base (Pork Bone and Soy Sauce Nabe)

1 packet of Japanese Char Siew

1 packet of wheat noodles (long, thin strands of noodles)

Green vegetables (I use Japanese Green)

4 stalks of green spring onions (or scallion) – cut into thin slices.

Any other meat balls or ingredients that you would like to add to your ramen noodles (optional)

Method

  1. In a pot filled with half pot of water, once it boils, cook the green vegetables until the stems turn soft (no need to over-cook the vegetables).  Take out and cool down.
  2. In the same pot of boiling water, cooked the wheat noodles until when you break the noodles and taste it, it is not too hard nor too soft.  Take out the hot noodles and put into another bowl of ice-cold water (this will make the noodles QQ)
  3. In another pot, heat up the Japanese Pork Bone Soup base.  Once the bubbles start forming, put in the Japanese Char Siew for a short while than take out.
  4. Ready to serve now.  In the serving bowl, scoop in the wheat noodles, put 2 slices of Char Siew on top, add some green vegetables, sprinkled with green spring onions.  Ready to eat!
